This is a 5 page paper discussing health and ethnicity. Recent studies in the areas of research in ethnicity in regards to disease, illness and health have shown that there are significant differences based on ethnicity in regards to incidence rates in areas such as cancer, diabetes and SIDS among others. In addition to the biological differences which have been recorded however, it has also been shown that certain environmental and social factors increase the incidence in most cases. Differences in health education, diet and exercise have also been shown to differ in regards to ethnicity and these factors also affect health. While some biological differences do exist between different ethnic groups in regards to health within a population further differences in social factors exacerbate and increase the differences.

and increase the differences. An October 2002 review was released by the Arizona College of Public Health stating that in regards to cancer
clinical trials, very little research has been done in the way of comparison of cancer rates and treatment based on ethnicity. Over 90 percent of the current clinical trials being
conducted in regards to cancer research are being reported according to the age and gender of the subjects while fewer than 30 percent are reporting on race and gender (Arizona,
2002). G. Marie Swanson, dean of the Arizona College of Public Health stated the importance of examining treatment and rates of illness based on ethnicity but that it is somewhat
more difficult to conduct trials in populations with varied ethnicities. She states that "other studies have shown that the effectiveness of treatment and prevention efforts does vary by race and
ethnicity" and "it is imperative that we find ways to encourage minorities to participate in clinical trials to ensure they receive the benefits of these studies" (Arizona, 2002). Dr. Swanson
finds these results puzzling since the 1993 National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act was passed mandating that minority inclusion must be a requirement of clinical trials and overall the results
