Florida, in the region of Okeechobee, West Palm Beach and other surrounding areas. Among children, asthma is the leading reason for hospitalization.
Effective management of the condition has been shown repeatedly to reduce the number of times that individuals of all ages are hospitalized or make use of the emergency department (ED)
in response to an asthma attack. Rural and agricultural in its focus, the area surrounding Okeechobee is rather poor and many of its residents have no access to health
care insurance. Increased use of health care facilities has the effect of driving up costs for everyone, including the patients family. Caring for uninsured patients increases hospitals costs,
which then are passed on to those patients fully insured for health care. This in turn contributes to increasing the cost of health care insurance, with the ultimate effect
of increasing costs still further and marginalizing greater numbers of individuals and families who no longer can afford the higher premiums. One tool
that should be useful in slowing the progress of this inexorable scenario is that of education of those with asthma and their families. The purpose here is to assess
