outcomes. If we look at the family provided by the student there are two members that indicate potential health problems; the father with the cholesterol and the daughter with low
weight. Father The father has a high level of cholesterol, measured at 7.6. High levels of cholesterol increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, myocardial infarction and stroke. If we
look at the lifestyle of the father and the other indicators we can assess the level of risk. If the patient is over weight with a high body mass there
this will aggravate the situation and may also be indicative of a bad diet. The calculation for the body mass is the weight divided by the height squared. If the
result of this is over 25 then the father would be classed as overweight. The result is just over 21, meaning that the father is not overweight. However there
are other lifestyle factors which need to be considered. There is no regular exercise, we are not told whether the father is a smoker. The traditional approach to intervention therapies
has been to lower the level of fat intake in the diet, increase exercise, and of smoking is an issue to lower or prevent smoking. The difficult with many studies
are the way they look only to specific conditions. The American Heart Association, in a large study found that where these theories were used and cholesterol was lowered slightly
this did not have an significant impact on coronary heart disease (CHD) (Lockman et al, 2005). However, another study indicated where there was a reduction in saturated fats for high
risk patients, and the changes were maintained for at least two years there would be a slight reduction in CHD (Lockman et al, 2005). The use of drugs such as
