Obamacare has consumed discussions on American health care legislation in the last years. Obamacare will have significant impacts on the health care that Americans
are able to procure. Many of those impacts are sure to be negative. At the same time, of course, Obamacare is just one piece of health care legislation
to pass into law in the past decade. Medicare Part D, for example, is certainly worthy of note, as is the ongoing debate surrounding proposed legislation mandating HPV vaccination
for young girls. Some health care legislation targets the whole nation but, more often than not, specific groups are more affected by it than others.
Medicare D is of particular interest in this discussion because, unlike Medicare A and B which are administered by a federal agency, Medicare D is administered by
the insurance companies themselves (American Foreign Service Association, 2005). These insurance companies have been selected by the government to administer the plan yet they vary with the state in
which the beneficiary resides (American Foreign Service Association, 2005). These companies often offer a confusing assortment of plans and utilize "high-pressured marketing blitz" to draw in customers (American Foreign
Service Association, 2005). The premiums charged by these companies for participation in the plan vary as do the co-payments that are required (American Foreign Service Association, 2005).
