to the work of Aristotle, and perhaps further, as humanity has presented stories of heroes in many ways. The novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the first of
several books by J.K. Rowling that offers up the entertaining story of Harry Potter and his journeys in life as he discovers his powers as a wizard. The following paper
examines the first novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone as it relates to Harrys journey as a hero. The paper illustrates that Harry is very much a hero in
the book but likely his own hero rather than anyone elses. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone In first looking at
the journey of a hero it is perhaps important to go back and look at Aristotles examination of the tragic hero. Harry may well not be a tragic hero, at
least not in the first book, but he does have some of the qualities of Aristotles hero, or his tragic hero. It is noted that, "The hero of tragedy is
not perfect" (Brown). For many it may seem that Harry is perfect because he is nothing more than the victim of those who surround him. But, then again, one can
see that Harry is not perfect because he is not filled with self confidence, nor is he incredibly knowledgeable about his gifts of being a wizard and so this makes
him less than perfect. He also does not always follow the rules in the school and thus is not perfect. . From
another perspective, as seen in the classic The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers, Campbell states the following in relationship to the journey of a hero: "The
