Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 4 page paper looks at a case study provided by the student with the need to schedule machine hours for a two stage job. He paper shows how this may be undertaken and looks at different systems that could be used to develop scheduling if more machines were introduced. The bibliography cites 4 sources.

As one task, the drill process time has to take before the reamer task there is a simple order. Looking at the way this maybe
examined in order to schedule it there have been different methods proposed that would be suitable for this type of scheduling, although some may be more suited to the more
complex scheduling tasks, There are several influences on scheduling that have to be allowed for when determining which scheduling method to use, these include the difficulty that is
seen when trying to model the real world, complexity where there maybe a large umber of options, the criteria or objective to the way the scheduling should take place,
this may be vague or with particular goals in place, there will also always be some level of uncertainty there may also be some domain specific dependencies making it difficult
to transfer the results of one domain to another. The methods that can be used include manual scheduling, mathematical approaches, a heuristic search, advanced algorithms, expert systems and artificial
intelligence, a scheduling system or a mix of all these approaches. The manual approach means looking at the individual processes and calculation which order they should be undertaken in
to leave the least wasted time. For example, where the job starts with the first task and then moves onto the second
task, the first job needs to be the job with the shortest drill time so that the reamers see as little time wasted as possible. A build up of the
work for the second job is not an issue with this job as the jobs are not time sensitive so the tasks need to be scheduled to reduce the overall
