and related disorders. When parents learn that their young child has autism, it comes a tremendous shock. They are thrown immediately into a subject that is almost strange to their
experience, which is something that they have to cope with while fearing for the future of their child and recovering their emotional equilibrium. They have make decisions and these decisions
have to be made quickly, immediate intervention, as early as possible, as been shown to be beneficial with autistic children. The goal of this informative book is to aid parents
in making these decisions by educating them on autism, their preferred interventional approach and the issues various issues involved. While this text is geared toward this goal, specifically addressing parents,
it is sufficiently comprehensive to offer a good general guide to professionals working with children as well. The first chapter introduces the subject and the basics of treatment. The
authors begin their text by offering a case study, which gives the reader an overview of one familys experience with having an autistic child. The family is identified as
the "Yu Family," with parents Harold and Grace. Eddie is their oldest child. Eddie is such a "good" baby, demanding little attention, "quiet and undemanding," that Harold and Grace decide
to have another child as quickly as possible. By the time Eddie is fifteen months old, Grace is again pregnant, but also worried about Eddie. He has no words. He
only rarely responds to his name. He does not act like his cousin Anna, who is similar in age, by seeing out social contact (Harris and Weiss 1). This case
