that hedonism is the answer. Why not be happy by chasing pleasure? Of course, such pleasures are short lived as most philosophers have found. Pleasure is fleeting. Therefore, happiness is
something more. Different philosophers have different ideas about happiness, but it is also something that is studied in contemporary society by psychologists. Indeed, many people seek mental health help because
they are unhappy. David Lykken claims that happiness is half genetic, but the other half is related to individual determination (Lloyd, 2006). In other words, people can be happy
if they really want it. Abraham Lincoln said that people are as happy as they decide to be (Lloyd, 2006). In many ways, the decision to be happy can
affect ones life for the better. Still, for many people, happiness seems unattainable and they search for answers through therapy, antidepressants, self-help books and religion. For some, the search for
immortality has to be rectified. For others, happiness is not all that complicated. Is it possible for human beings to really be happy? For Sigmund Freud, happiness is definitely attainable.
For Freud (1989), much happiness comes from sexual love or the pursuit of it. Yet, Freud (1989) contends that no one would abandon this path in the pursuit of happiness
if there was no catch. The problem is, as Freud (1989) saw it was that love relationships also breed unhappiness. That said, the alignment of happiness with love is tied
to Freudian thought. Many people are familiar with this idea. They date and after a few weeks, things seem perfect, but often, relationships unravel. What was once the source of
seeming bliss turns into a nightmarish existence replete with anguish and despair. In many ways, while love seems to be a part of happiness as least as far as Freud
