characteristics of "antisocial personality disorder", a significant number of characteristics in fact to be considered criminally insane. To provide a character analysis of
Hannibal Lechter it is necessary to explore the characteristics associated with antisocial personality disorder as well as the characteristics from other diagnostic classes such as "borderline personality disorder". This
analysis is made even more interesting when viewed from the historical perspective of how we as a society define evil and what causes evil. We must not only focus
on what psychological classification men like Lechter fall under but also on the more important question as to what causes them to engage in evil acts.
Hannibal Lechter is not unique in that he experiences forbidden impulses, he is unique in that he acts upon those impulses. Indeed, most humans experience
some degree of forbidden impulses and thoughts. Most, however, do not act upon these thoughts and impulses. Hannibal Lechter deviated from the norm. Even the most noted
