modern day gurus, bring Buddhism to western society, there are in fact problems with this new approach to spirituality. The conflict is simple, though a paradox of sorts. To Buddhists,
there is no conflict between their belief system and western religion, but to Christians and others who practice biblical dogma, there is a significant conflict. Hanhs book is an exemplification
of non-western religion, not merely a philosophy one can embrace in addition to another. While Hanh provides his own insights and relates eastern principles to western modes of living, the
principles of eastern religion are indicated every step of the way. Every exercise, suggestion, meditation and point made in the book can in some way be related to eastern philosophy.

of daily life, the conflict which exists is that many Americans, for example, practice some type of western religion. Many of those mainstream religions prohibit the worship of other gods.
