and cars to fancy vacations. However, one thing that isnt covered much, but pops up every now and then, is the concept of humane orientation. This is defined as "the
degree to which an organization or society encourages and rewards individuals" for doing the right thing, being fair, being generous and kind to others (Grove, 2005). High humane orientation societies
believe that others interest is important and members of society are responsible for promoting others well-being (Grove, 2005). Granted, some of the ultra conservatives cal this "socialism," but there are
spots in which people and organizations show a definite trending toward a high humane orientation. The Winegrass Hospice, for example, in Alabama, donated 1.5 tons of food to a
local food bank through a food drive (Winegrass Hospice Donates 1.5 Tons of Food, 2009). The organization received $500 from owner Gentiva for coming in first in a division contest
(Winegrass Hospice Donates 1.5 Tons of Food, 2009). Furthermore, this organization, which has been in existence for 20 years, is celebrating its longevity by participating in 20 local service projects
including the Winegrass Humane Society, the local United Way, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Winegrass Childrens Home and Habitat for Humanity (Winegrass Hospice Donates 1.5 Tons of Food,
2009). Its interesting that an organization, known for offering comfort to those who are dying (and their families) is reaching out to help others in the community. In an example
