The following are some questions asked to help the student (as head of his/her company) to recruit and maintain loyal employees. 1. Identify some ways in which specific organizational changes might improve the working environment and encourage employee loyalty. As you analyze the following factors, ask yourself the obvious question: If I were a programmer, what organizational changes would encourage me to stay? Job specialization. Many computer programmers (and with good reason) describe their jobs as tedious. They have to focus on detail in a narrow work area. In order to avoid this problem, there are a few steps the HR person (i.e., the student and HR director) can take. First, training should be stepped up. Any type of training does two things - first, it boosts an employees ability, and second, it increases employee loyalty, because employees like the idea that companies are spending money on them for improvement. Second, it would be a good idea for the employee to meet with the boss and human resources management to determine how he/she can add good changes to his/her job to make it more interesting and less tedious. Again, in this scenario, the employee is being provided with input on what his/her future will be like. Another issue thats been brought up here is if expanding employee authority could help. The answer here is: it depends on the employee. Some employees go into programming simply because they want to be free to do their work and not have to make decisions or exercise authority. ...
