1. Introduction The role of human resource management is often overlooked when undertaking strategic planning; however without the employees a company is unlikely to be successful. Companies need to
match the style of recruitment and management to the needs of the company so that they match and the employees are maximised as a resource. Many firms may develop strategies
and consider the human elements as present rather needing active management. There are many issues when it comes to the management of labour, there have been two schools of
though developed; the scientific school and the human relationships school, one looks at the concept of economic man, and assumes workers are motivated by financial rewards only, the other assumes
the model of social man and considers the need to motivate with more than money (Huczyniski and Buchanan, 2003). These models show that there is a great influence in the
level and type of performance that will be gained from employees purely as a result of the way that they are treated and their resulting feelings. Where there are issues
within a company it is by referring to theoretical models that potential practical strategies may be developed to overcome the issues. This paper will start by looking at a problem
