According to the article, luxury hotels have had to turn to spa-oriented services (ranging from facials to full-body massages) to try to find ways to lure business travelers to
their properties (Ellin, 2002). These days, the author noted, almost every hotel (high-end and even more mid-ranged price) has the basics; multi-line phones, high speed Internet access and a business
center with both conference tables and fax machines (Ellin, 2002). To take that next step, noted the article spas were the next thing (Ellin, 2002).
One reason for the move is the attempt of hotels to differentiate themselves in a very competitive market (Ellin, 2002). By offering ways in which business travelers
can also be competitive, these hotels provide justification for business travelers to stay. Business travelers themselves also need to find ways to be at "the top of their game," one
expert noted (Ellin, 2002). Spas, with their selection of facials, massages, exercise equipment and in some cases, even nutritional counseling, are proving to be viable tools for the business traveler
who needs the pick-me-up in order to get out there and succeed. Theres some truth to this - more and more business
travelers are making choices of hotel, based on amenities, namely whether they can get a facial and a massage at a specific hotel (Ellin, 2002).
