well examine both of these scenarios. First well determine how bad economic times can hurt hotels; as can discriminatory charges. The second half of the paper will focus on how
discrimination charges can hurt an airline, and what the company should do to counteract the charges. Hotels and the Economy Hotels
are not necessarily a basic need - though they do provide shelter, they dont provide permanent shelter as an apartment or house might. The one exception, of course, is if
someone is relocating and needs a place to stay until a house (or apartment) is ready for habitation. Otherwise, hotels are mainly luxuries, which are used if people are traveling
to a location or visiting a destination. When times are good, the hotel business booms. Leisure travel is at a high point.
Companies dont hesitate to book conferences and conventions out of town, using hotels to host guests. Business travel as well is on the upswing, which requires hotel rooms as well.
But a downturn in the economy can definitely hurt the hotel business. In a recession, people dont travel as often (in the
current recession the term "staycation" is getting a great deal of traction - this is when people stay home to find things to do with their time off rather than
