(The Home Depot, 2012). The stores also offer installation services for carpeting and other products (The Home Depot, 2012). In 2008, in an
effort to streamline operations and costs, Home Depot announced it would no longer have a human resources manager in every store (Marquez, 2008). The idea behind the HR cutback was
to take the dollars saved and hire more sales associates to the stores (Marquez, 2008). On the one hand, this was welcome
news to store managers, who believed that having an HR person on hand was more of an impediment than an assistance. Furthermore, very few individuals had anything bad to say
about the fact that more sales associates would be hired (three per store, to be exact). However, as Jessica Marquez (2008) put it, the store managers "had better be prepared
to stay on top of employee relations issues more than they had in the past" (p. 1). Without an understanding of HR issues from payroll documentation, to harassment and discrimination
complaints, to keep track of sick days, the Home Depot managers would be in trouble. Marquez pointed out that Home Depot planned to give its managers additional training to help
