(AIDs), one of the most feared diseases of our modern world. Unfortunately, this fear is not without justification. The number of individuals who are contracting Autoimmune Deficiency Syndrome
(AIDS) across the world is growing on a daily basis. Some say that AIDS cases have reached epidemic proportion. One of the fortunate aspects of this trend is
that AIDS research is intensifying. Consequently numerous methodologies are being put into place to try and counteract the ravages of the disease on the human body. Each of
these methodologies take into account the cellular and even the molecular structure of the HIV pathogen. The molecular and cellular structure of the
HIV pathogen is directly responsible for its pathophysiological function. This function is in turn directly associated with the number of fatalities which are attributed to the disease. The
numbers are not to be scoffed at. In the United States alone, the AIDS epidemic has killed three-hundred thousand people (Garrett, 1996). Five-hundred thousand currently have AIDS and
another one million people have been diagnosed as HIV positive (Garrett, 1996). Worldwide estimates of those infected with HIV are twenty to forty million with more than seven million
deaths being attributed to AIDS related causes (Garrett, 1996). Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a viral disease that attacks the
human immune system making it ineffective in fighting disease or sickness caused by microbial organisms. Although numerous treatments are in the experimental stages and several drugs have been used
successfully to temporarily prolong the lives of persons infected with AIDS, a cure has yet to be discovered. Without treatment the picture is more grim, death usually occurs within
