It should be a joyful time, a time for celebration, a time for another added dimension to be added to a couples relationship. However, for
many, this is not the case. The way in which man and women view pregnancy can be quite the polar opposite, as depicted in Hemingways short story, "Hills Like White
Elephants". It is true that many womens groups would love to disenfranchise Hemingways books from the American Classics distinction, however
it is clear that if one takes a very hard look at the literature with the authors life experiences in mind, then the picture becomes more clear. Though he was
unable to create a three dimensional woman character, it can also be said that rather than making a pointed statement about women, he was doing as many writers do when
they write: attempting to arrive at some truth about a topic. In Hemingways case, a good argument can be made for his attempt to understand the feminine mystique.
In the short story, "Hills Like White Elephants" he shows both sides of an issue, from a male versus female point of
