Ethnic minorities pretty much stuck to "their own side of the tracks" - very rarely would you see a white doctor treating a black woman.
Less than 100 years after the blatant segregation in health care treatment, America is a true melting pot, with the "minority projected to be the "majority" by
2050. Any person of color can walk into almost any doctors office and any hospital and expect the same treatment as his/her white counterpart.
Or is that true? The problem when it comes to people of color and todays health care system is that
there still continues to be latent bias and disparities when it comes to health care providers and their treatment of these patients. The truth is, there is still a large
disparity when it comes to treating people of color and ethnic minorities that goes beyond language - there is a cultural divide as well. The problem we face here, however,
is that the health care community hasnt quite caught up to the reality that yesterday is gone, and the new day consists of ethnic minority patients that may not have
the same view of chronic illness or its treatment than white patients might have. The Situation Family physician David Satcher wrote that
in 2005, he and colleagues published a study that examined mortality rates of blacks and white between 1960 and 2000. In that study, he notes, there was little disparity; black
