A 30 page paper. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) is a new national, standardized survey about patient’s perceptions of the care they received. Hospitals will be rewarded or penalized based and their scores on this survey. This essay explains how the Survey was developed, dates and agencies associated with it, the types of questions, scoring, and the laws driving hospitals to improve. The essay provides a literature review related to the HCAHPS and how other hospitals have dealt with it as well as issues about it. For the purpose of this essay, poor nurse communication was identified as the problem and a change management model was identified to use, Kotter. Each of Kotter’s stages is explained along with the preferred type of leadership style for that stage and how each stage fit into the Plan-Do-Study-Act model. Bibliography lists 18 sourced.
