Such might indeed have been the case for Harry S. Truman, the United States 32nd president. History and those who keep the records are eventually the shapers of memory. In
the end, then, it can be seen that the influence of Truman can still be felt to this day. Much of the man was made in the boy, it has
to be stated about Harry Truman. Raised in Missouri, he grew up in rural farmland as a farmers son. However, he was anything but big and burly. His eyesight was
not good and as such he was not allowed to play sports like the other boys. He had to wear very thick glasses and as a result confined himself to
music lessons. He also became a voracious reader, the student may which to state. These early childhood experiences gave rise to a delight with the Arts, and in fact, if
not for the depression, he might have pursued a musical career. From his earlier love of books, especially all things historic, Truman would gain a solid foundation on various
cultures and strategies of government which would never leave him. Moved to be a part of the military in some way, again, Harrys hopes were dashed when the army rejected
him because of his poor eyesight. However, Harry would have his chance at the onset of World War I. Despite his disappointments with the army, the National Guard did take
Harry in. Then, at the onset of World War I, Harry, along with his regiment, volunteered for active duty. He served in France in field artillery, distinguishing himself and moving
quickly up the chain of command. His earlier experience in World War I would come into play in the last half of World War II. Truman,
