for as long as mankind continues to enjoy the story. One of the more interesting ideas to come forward as of late is that Hamlet was not so nearly as
demented as many were lead to believe, and instead, serves as an example of a brilliant mind bent on revenge in the ultimate of all strategies. In Scene one,
act 3, Hamlet gives his famous soliloquy, to be or not to be. Even as early as this, there is a good argument for Hamlets strategy unfolding. His motivation for
giving this speech is an attempt to solve a potentially external problem, especially since Polonius and Cladius are within earshot of the speech. However, the conversation which Hamlet has may
very well concern his feelings for Ophelia and what he should do as concerns her safety and more importantly, what his decision to embark upon his plan will mean to
their relationship. The basic point of this to be or not to be passage is to determine how best to move Ophelia away from the action which will be taking
place shortly. Hamlet has realized that the plan he has determined to follow would place Ophelia in danger. She is too close to his heart and too much a part
of his day to day life that he would never be able to keep his plans from her. So, he has decided that he must pretend to sever their relationship,
that he never cared for her, that he had only been playing with her emotions. This is significant, because in essence, this is exactly what he does with the mousetrap
