it was like to face the harsh winter along with fighting against the British. The title reflects the plot in that Will, along with his brother who happens to be
a colonel, is given the mission of getting ammunition from another location. The boys must travel three hundred miles in order to accomplish the feat. This book provides much
information in respect to how the people lived during the 1700s. Things were much more difficult at the time. They did not have trucks or trains or simple ways to
get materials from one place to another. Obviously, if they had, this book would not exist. The story is about the hardships faced by the people at the time. Hauling
cannons for example was a major event. Of course, while the book does provide much detail in terms of how the people lived during this era, it also reflects on
war. Today, there is much disagreement about whether or not war should be fought. Yet, in the context of this historical piece of fiction, little in the way of disagreement
is included. People seem to have more pride in their missions and what they want to do in order to create a free society. The fact that there is an
absence of discord about the war itself is interesting in light of current events. Guns for General Washington provides examples of courage and persistence. The two boys, along with some
others, make their way to New York from Boston and back. Again, there are no automobiles, trucks, trains and so forth, so the dangerous adventure proves to be quite admirable.
No one in todays day and age would think that this is possible. The book therefore goes to show the average person that many things they think are not doable
