past few years with the violence in our schools, concerning children who have access to guns. There are, as is always the case with such powerful issues, two sides to
the subject. And, the issue itself is one of the most talked about, argued about, subjects in our country. In fact, perhaps next to abortion concerns, gun control is the
most controversial of subjects our country possesses. This makes it a touchy subject with many, to say the least, and subject for serious examination. But, even with serious examination,
we cannot deny some crucial facts, one being that it is our constitutional right to bear arms, and that regardless of our opinions, the fact remains that criminals will always
have access to guns and we, as citizens, cannot allow only the criminals and the law enforcement individuals the right to possess guns. In the following paper we argue that
gun control is not a reality we should accept, and present this argument by also providing some relevant arguments posed by those for gun control. The paper then discusses legislation,
statistics, and the 2nd amendment as it presents the right to bear arms. Argument For It may well be that the most powerful, and likely only, argument for
gun control is that the existence, or presence, of guns in a private citizens home leads to more violence. Statistics have often indicated that when a gun is in a
home the chances of it violence occurring, and the gun being used in error such as by children etc., are far greater than if there were no guns at all.
