is a pursuit that often leaves one with evil results for greed is not a pleasant endeavor or emotion. Jonathan Swifts "Gullivers Travels" and Frederick Douglass "The Narrative of the
Life of Frederick Douglass" are two works which present us with different looks at corruption and the evil effects that greed presents. Despite the fact that Swifts book is fiction
and Douglass is an account of his days as a slave, the two work incredibly well in presenting us with the evils of greed. In the following paper we examine
the two separately and then present a brief comparison and discussion of the two. Gullivers Travels Gullivers stories are stories which constantly examine societies, political structures, and various
leaders in order to illustrate how evil and greedy and selfish most systems are. As one author states, "Most of the criticism in the Voyage to the Houyhnhnms is directed
at human nature itself, although the trend to more particular targets begun in the third voyage is continued with glancing, but increasingly direct blows to the subjects of war, (destruction
clothed in the pretext of valour and patriotism), lawyers, (social parasites who measure their worth by their excellence at deception and therefore, actually inhibit justice), and money, (the greed of
a few is fed by the labor and poverty of the many, as well as the relative uselessness and corruption of these priveleged few)" (Galloway gulliv.html). Swift illustrates how the
greedy control the people, and use the people for their own desires, thus creating an evil environment. Now, while these people in Swifts tale do not necessarily get what they
deserve, we as the reader see the evil inherently possessed in that greed. One example also comes from the Lilliputs. While the leader was in his position due to
