has also be the recognition of the needs of learners for support and guidance. The way this has emerged within the arena of further education may be seen as a
result of the development of political and economic needs over time and supported with the changes in technology. In the past many of the further education subjects, especially the
more vocational and practical subjects would have been learnt with the use of an apprenticeship with in the job learning provided by a professional and passed on to the learner.
This was an age old method of increasing knowledge and dates back to time in memorial. Howeve,r this is not the most reliable of training methods, for many individual and
was also seen as plagued with difficulties, gaining an apprenticeship could be differ and passing the knowledge on to one learner at a time was not efficient where there were
increasing demands. However there were few issues of support and guidance, this was integral in the structure of the one to one relationship that was typical of this learning format.
