as well as organic growth. In total more than 150 different brands are owned by company with a product range in excess of 7,000 different items (Grupo Bimbo, 2011). These
include, but are not limited to, breads, cakes, pastries, confectionary, cajeta (burnt goats milk candy), tortillas and tostadas as well as sweet and salty snacks (Grupo Bimbo, 2011). These goods
are produced in 98 company-owned plants, with the company undertaking a distribution through a network of more than 39,000 routes (Grupo Bimbo, 2011). There are also some associate plants producing
goods (Grupo Bimbo, 2011). The company mission is "to nourish, delight and serve our world", this is being achieved with an underlying strategy to increase sales volume and market
share. The aims also include the aim to achieve the desired profit levels in line with the corporate values. Corporate values reflect a people centric approach, emphasizing the abilities of
the individual and team work, as well as pursuing quality and effectiveness in operations (Grupo Bimbo, 2011). The ongoing strategy of acquisition has helped the company grow at a rapid
rate. Recent acquisitions have included Sara Lee in North America, which was acquired $959 million (Kawamoto, 2010), Pan Rico in China, Globo Bakeries in Mexico and Lago del Sur in
Chile (Grupo Bimbo, 2011). Today the company has a number one position for breads and baked goods in many the markets in which it operates. For example, in the
