12 Angry Men illustrates the often-frustrating path people travel before finding the common ground of group cohesion. Throughout much of the movie, the jurors impose their respective attitudes, opinions
and prejudices upon the others in a quest to commandeer the debate and ultimate decision without giving the first thought to listening - much less attributing any credit - to
what anyone else had to say. This wholly individualistic approach to a very collectively structure task clearly created a rift among the jurors that prevented them from making progress
toward an equitable verdict, inasmuch as the men became "caught up in emotions" (Black, 2005, p. 273) that kept them from really listening to one another. Only when Henry
