Discussion The most exciting element in the book is the Wild Magic, because it is unpredictable and uncontrollable. It reaches readers on an instinctive level, where we all hope (and
fear) that magic might be real. This is the level J.K. Rowling gets to with the Harry Potter books-we know that such things arent possible, but there is some small
part of us that thinks, "Well, maybe..." The Wild Magic comprises things like the Greenwitch and the Wild Hunt. These spirits and creatures are neither good nor evil, they simply
exist, and because of this they cannot be judged by man, nor do the things that matter to man affect them in the least. Its not that they wish to
harm us, they simply do not care. That cold indifference is far more terrifying that active hatred, and its what makes the book so strange, and its strangeness is what
makes it particularly exciting. The book continues the adventures of Simon, Jane and Barney Drew, who found the Holy Grail earlier in the series only to have it stolen by
the Dark. Now they are trying to find it a second time. They come to the Cornish village of Trewissick along with their Uncle Merry and a strange boy named
Will Stanton. Merry and Will are both Old Ones, though the other three dont know it. They soon discover that a man from the Dark is also in the village,
and their struggle begins. They all experience a series of dangerous and mysterious events, but without doubt the centerpiece of the book is the making of the Greenwitch and casting
