Americans, these people still had very few rights in the South in the United States by the time the 1960s came around. The African Americans were still not allowed to
sit next to white people on a bus, use the same restrooms as whites, use the same drinking fountains as whites, and not allowed to eat in the same restaurants
as the whites. This led to many different demonstrations during the 1960s, one of which was the Greensboro sit-ins. The following paper looks at this particular event illustrating that it
was one of the most important turning points of the Civil Rights Movement. Greensboro Sit-Ins "In 1960 four freshmen from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College in Greensboro
strolled into the F. W. Woolworth store and quietly sat down at the lunch counter. They were not served, but they stayed until closing time."1 They asked for something to
eat and drink but were denied because they were African American.2 They were also told that if they wanted anything they had to stand and eat because that is what
was required of African Americans.3 The next day saw more people doing the same thing, with 25 more students arriving.4 This particular sit-in
turned into many as the protest continued for almost 6 months.5 In addition, it sparked many other protests throughout the South and ultimately, a few months later, there were actually
