Global warming is no longer in the realm of science fiction. Global warming is adversely affecting our
environment. It is particularly devastating to the hydroperiod of the earth, that delicate balance on which life depends. Global warming is affecting water levels in both fresh and
marine habitats and will, in the long term, significantly change species distribution and density of both plants and animals. Global warming, at least in part, is attributable to mans
impacts on the earth. It has been connected to the emissions that we are making to our atmosphere from our manufacturing plants, automobiles and the like. Consequently, to
prevent these deleterious impacts from occurring we must somehow structure our emissions so that they do not significantly exceed pre-industrial levels. Climatic changes
are a documentable fact and many attribute these changes to human activity, namely from the emission of various pollutants into the earths atmosphere (Bode, 2006). Long-term emission reductions are
a must but establishing clear goals and limitations in that task has been complicated by disagreements as to the specifics of those goals and limitations.
The greenhouse effect, that natural regulator of the earths climate, has been altered by the addition of pollutants to the atmosphere. What was once a precise regulator
of the climate has now been compounded in its intensity. Instead of preserving the degree of ice coverage over the earth which existing ecologies have evolved in adaptation to,
the greenhouse effect has now been magnified so that it is melting a greater and greater percentage of this ice. The increased concentrations of certain gases now act as
