In order to accommodate these wishes, builders now try to work with materials that are healthier for the people in which to live. In the heart of New York City,
green building is taking place. For example, a loft on Broadway has been purposely renovated with materials like bamboo and wood alternative cabinetry and flooring, as well as recycled glass
countertops ("Broadway Loft," 2007). Its duct system uses fabric, and the solar shades are PVC free ("Broadway Loft," 2007). Another Building on West Fourth Street has a large solar thermal
system on its roof ("140-142 West 4th Street," 2007). There are numerous examples of green building in New York City. In delving into this subject, one might want to know
why people are going green. In a city with so much pollution, going green can help to reduce the citys carbon footprint. In fact, building green buildings is just one
step to reduce the carbon footprint in New York City. Mayor Bloomberg has presented 132 short-term projects designed to do just that, which include the use of hybrid vehicles for
its emergency squads and replacing the lights on the Brooklyn Bridge ("City Unveils 132 Projects to Reduce Carbon Footprint," 2007). In combating this problem in New York City, part of
the effort will involved attention to buildings. First, what is a carbon footprint and why is it so important? A carbon footprint is the measurement as aligned with carbon
dioxide or CO2, a substance emitted through combustion of fossil fuels ("Carbon footprint," 2007). This occurs in daily life as a part of living, and is related to the amount
