From architecture to philosophy to politics, Greek influence is seen. As such it comes as no surprise to understand that ancient Greek drama, or theater, has greatly influenced modern theater,
and the development of all Western theater through the ages. The following paper examines how ancient Greek drama or theater is still seen in modern theater. Greek Drama
and Modern Theater "Greek theater and plays have had a lasting impact on Western drama and culture" (Ancient Greek Theater). The time frame for the classic Greek drama or theater
was between 600 and 200 B.C. and it was predominant in Athens, which was the center of politics and culture at the time (Ancient Greek Theater). "Athenian tragedy, comedy, and
satyr plays were some of the earliest theatrical forms to emerge in the world" and they have clearly had a lasting influence in many ways. One of the most
important elements in much of the Greek drama was that which involved the chorus. The chorus would often sing songs and address the audience. This evolved, over time, into different
forms of modern theater. For example, opera can be argued to have stemmed from the chorus perspective of the Greek drama. One author notes the following in relationship to the
role of the chorus: "[E]ach play had its chorus, or group of men, a dozen or so, who would observe the action from the orchestra, and between episodes would sing
and dance their commentary on the action. Sometimes the chorus leader would even participate in the scenes by engaging the characters in dialogue...The chorus role was to model a response
