Greece, long seen as one of the most powerful nations in the history of Western Civilization was a popular land for invasion in the 1940s. The Germans, the Italians, and the Bulgarians all saw Greece as a good place to set up camp, so to speak, making their powers known and ultimately controlling the destiny of Greece. Then, with the end of WWII Greece quickly became a Civil War battleground for remaining political struggles. In essence, the history of Greece in one single decade, though often overlooked, was very detailed and evolutionary for Greece. The following paper examines Greece in the 1940s. Greece in the 1940s In the very early 1940s, during 1940 and 1941, Italy made war with Greece and Greece experienced an initial success that quickly was lost in the face of Nazi invasion (Macedonian Heritage [2], 2005). In the beginning the Greeks were able to push the Italians back, but they quickly lost ground again (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 2005). At that point Greek-Macedonia became divided and then ultimately controlled by the Germans, the Italians and by the Bulgarians (Macedonian Heritage [2], 2005). The Germans controlled central Macedonia and the Italians took Western Greece (Macedonian Heritage [2], 2005). "After its entry into the war on the side of the Axis, Sofia received from Hitler the greatest part of Greek western Thrace and Greek eastern Macedonia.
