to look at economic influences. All things combined actually paved the way for the rise of fascism and Nazism. The times were ripe for change. People were unhappy. Yet, while a decided focus was on countries like Germany with its Nazism and Italy with its fascism, some of the countries at the time were ignored. Greece is one such county. Yet, Greece during the interwar period also had experienced a great deal of trauma and the government was quite forceful during that period. Sefariades in a journal article, writes: "Long before Mexas toppled democracy in 1936, a host of dictatorial manifestations had already begun to divest Greek parliamentarism of much of its substantive content1." Safariades provides a look at Greece during this era in the work is entitled " The Coercive Impulse: Policing Labour in Interwar Greece." In the context of this article, the author helps prove that Greece indeed struggled with problems. The article begins with the fact that in 1922, there was marshall law; this was a breach of constitutionality2. Clearly, when marshall law is introduced at any time, and in any era, it may be construed as a use of force. What is behind the marshall law does not matter in interpreting this as a strong governmental act. At the same time, marashall law may be introduced in flourishing democracies when circumstances dictate that such an action is good for the people. Yet, during this period of time in Greece, the government would take this action for the good of the people. During part of the interwar period, Greece was a communist state but it was also a rather weak state3.
