that sees a good flow of words and ideas. His writing style is crisp and entertaining, something that helps one to trudge through this detailed history book. Yet, while the
specific information is there, this is not an extensive volume by any means. Overall, the work provides general information about Julius Caesar and how he was a champion of individual
rights. Michael Grant (1992) looks at the political games that took place during the time period. Also, there are many people who are against this individual of focus and
in fact, Julius Caesar has much competition. There are jealousies and confrontations and Grant (1992) has much to say about that. Other individuals are nicely developed in the context of
this piece that does focus on a central figure. The reader is provided with enough detail to comprehend how Roman civilization unfolded during the time in which Caesar lived, which
was about 100 BC through 44 BC, making Julius Caesar about middle age by todays standards at his death. The book focuses on the government of Rome at the
time and the contributions of Julius Caesar. While much attention is provided to the politician of focus, there is of course information relayed about numerous individuals who lived during the
era. This work provides a chronology of events as Julius Caesar came to power and takes the reader from early in his career to the end of his life. While
