Grandparents fight to have the right to see their grandchildren, and perhaps most aunts and uncles do not really care about their nieces and nephews. The level of involvement of relatives in a childs life has become fare less in recent decades for numerous reasons. And, in many ways people may generally assume that relatives have little influence or impact on a childs development or upbringing. The following paper examines how much influence and impact relatives can have upon children. Grandparents and Relatives In first considering if relatives, aside from parents, have any influence on a childs outlooks, personality and expectations from life we must perhaps consider who has such an influence on children. Surely it is not just parents alone that influence children and their personalities and all elements of their life. They are influenced by public figures, celebrities and music stars. They are influenced by classmates and by teachers. Children do not grow up isolated and alone, living only with their parents and their parents opinions and training. In all honesty, children are shaped by perhaps everyone in their lives. As such it makes sense that grandparents, if they are involved in a childs life, and other relatives, again if involved, would have a great impact on a childs life. For example, a young girl may find herself more comfortable talking about changes or worries in her life with a close aunt than she would with her mother.
