substantial characteristics of an individuals with borderline personality disorder. Understanding the manifestations of BPD provides a basis for proposing possible treatments for this character in light of the links
with DSM-IV diagnostic criterion. The Character Graham, the character portrayed by James Spader in Sex, Lies and Videotapes, is an individual who takes many steps to separate himself
from other people. Graham demonstrates a general inability to maintain a home, work relationships, or even hold a job. Graham is what some might describe as a "drifter,"
an individual who does not stay in one place for very long and rarely forms meaningful or appropriate interpersonal attachments. It is evident from the time this character is first
introduced that there are some issues that impact his perception of the world and his capacity to form relationships. Initially, his aloofness appears to be due to some desire
for self-protection, but as the film progresses, it becomes more evident that Graham seeks to do more than protect himself from others, he seeks a kind of personal retribution and
uses his videotapes to overstep personal boundaries with women. Important to note in his interactions with women is his revelation that he is sexually impotent, an issue that speaks
