I observed first-hand the dire consequences of lead poisoning among that citys poor inner-city children, as this causes reduced IQ, as well as physical problems with the nervous, circulatory, and
gastrointestinal systems. However, this one issue is simply the tip of the iceberg, so to speak, as numerous environmental issues, such as air pollution, water quality and pesticides, also have
the power to negatively impact public health. As this indicates, my intern experience is the factor that prompted my interest in pursuing environmental health as the focus of my masters
degree program. Having completed my undergraduate degree program, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Publish Health, my short-term goal is to continue my education and obtain a Master in
Public Health (MPH) degree, with a concentration in environmental health. My long-term goals derive from my dedication to the protection of human health and the environment, which means that I
will dedicate my lifes work to improving water, soil and food by using technology to measure and control pollutants, within both indoor and outdoor environments. My special areas of
interest are pesticides, air quality and how they interrelate to the broad determinants of health and public policy. After obtaining a MPH, I may find that it is necessary to
obtain a doctorate in order to achieve my long-term goals and I plan on evaluating this eventuality after completing a masters program. In order to pursue my goals, the
first step is to obtain a MPH. I anticipate that the knowledge and experience I gain through an MPH program in environmental health will pertain to how scientific evidence can
be used to inform and promote sustainable decision-making in regards to the utilization of resources, food systems and help to mitigate the effects of climate change. I expect that I
