presents for a better-informed and more connected world, the Internet presents certain threats to the world as we currently know it. The Internet is indeed an "information highway".
The worlds populace is turning to it more and more commonly for many of their information needs. Still, however, certain of those needs are met by more traditional sources.
Small town newspapers, for example, still are the primary resource for local news. As the publics familiarity with the Internet continues to grow, however, it is highly possible
that it will supplant this media arm as well. It might be contended, in fact, that without some sort of intervention the Internet will put small town US newspapers
out of business within the next fifteen years. As ominous as that prospect may seem, one of the interventions that could feasibly prevent it is even more ominous.
That intervention is the subsidization of newspapers by the US government. Government subsidies it seems are an inherent component of the modern day
business world. It might be contended that all businesses should be subsidized equally. The old adage of if every athlete took steroids the game would still not be
even, however, comes into mind. Much of the intent of government subsidies is to give the disadvantaged company a leg up. The fact of the matter, however, is
that some companies are just more adept not only at procuring but also at utilizing such funds. Government subsidies for the
