The following paper examines the government structure of each nation separately and then examines the two together, comparing and contrasting the two. Government Structures: United States
In the United States, "The Constitution sets up a federal system of government by dividing powers between the national, state and local governments" (Federal Government,
2007). This three-tier system has two primary characteristics. The first one is that the citizens of the nation elect the officials that will serve in the local, state, and national
governments (Federal Government, 2007). The authority lays with the people (Federal Government, 2007). "Second, each level of government raises money through taxation from the citizens living in the area it
serves. Unless each level of government can raise its own fiscal resources, it cannot act independently" (Federal Government, 2007). The Constitution and thus
the idea of government was designed so that the powers would be separate, that no one branch would possess all the power, and in this way there would be checks
and balances so that the power of the government would not grow too strong (Federal Government, 2007). In essence, each branch works separately from one another, yet works together as
well (Federal Government, 2007). This is especially seen in the federal government which involves three different branches: "The executive branch, symbolized by the office of the president of the United
