required to offer their workers health care by the government. To assist employees, and look out for their well being, employers ordinarily offer health insurance as well as other perks
such as discounts at eye wear stores and even free in- house counseling. Although to an extent, companies may be required to offer health insurance, they need not offer an
array of choices. In addition to compliance issues, HR departments do offer comprehensive benefits to both make sure that their employees are well physically and mentally but also because they
are competing with other firms for the best workers. Offering more comprehensive benefits may entice employees to stay as well as to attract new ones. To some extent, the law
enters the picture. The government makes laws that protect employees. For example, employers must provide benefits to all employees if they do so for anyone in the company. Health insurance
is expensive and while employers do want to compete, and make sure employees are doing well in general, they would likely not offer such an important and expensive benefit if
they were not required to do so by law. When an individual starts a company, he or she likely purchases health insurance for themselves. When they hire people, due
to the law, the employees must have the option of purchasing the same health coverage offered to the owners. While of course, employees do usually contribute to such plans, some
