and the governments view of technology has become an integral component of all business activity. Attending to public issues as far as technological concerns is akin to addressing internal
concerns in todays society. However, the term, which has "become so prevalent as to have become almost devoid of meaning" (Benedetto et al, 1994, p. 13), along with issue
technological concerns, have not been executed up to the expected level in order to effectively provide necessary strategic management of public issues of corporate technology. "Corporate efforts to deal
with controversial issues by implementing response strategies have not been uniformly successful" (Benedetto et al, 1994, p. 13). One particularly perpetuated area with regard to strategic management of public issues
deals with information technology. Businesses have been known to flat out ignore issues, as well as become a full and willing participant in the resolution. What determines which
end of the spectrum a specific business will employ involves considerable variables in management, policy and overall application. Those businesses that were less than effective in their handling of
technological issues were not faulted for their lack of issue-management strategy; rather, the culprit was more than likely a missing "plan of implementation tailored to the particular situation" (Benedetto et
al, 1994, p. 13). In these cases, it was determined that an integral component of adequate resolution rested upon what was considered to be the companys strategic issue orientation.
