Easter, October, 2012 -properly! In his essay "Some moral minima," Lenn Goodman presents challenges to relativism, which is the view that
morality is relative and that ethical truths are dependent on the society that fosters these beliefs. Goodman argues that some positions are inherently correct in labeling certain actions a wrong,
regardless of the culture in which they occur. These positions are that terrorism, genocide, slavery and rape are unequivocally wrong ethically and morally (Goodman, 2010). Goodman points out in
his argument against genocide that it violates the principle of having respect for the sanctity of life, as the perpetrators of genocide target a second group of people whom they
feel are inferior to themselves and, therefore, should be eradicated from the face of the earth. He argues that genocide is worse than murder or the deaths that result from
traditional warfare because genocidal perpetrators are never satisfied and will switch targets creating a larger death toll (Goodman, 2010). This position is inherently right and absolutely correct. History bears this
out as the Nazi regime did not limit their genocidal hatred to Jews, but extended it a variety of peoples, such as gypsies, homosexuals and those who dated to disagree
with their policies. Terrorism is also an act that Goodman categorizes as inherently evil and unjustifiable. He bases this evaluation on the evaluation that terrorism is cowardly and utilizes
