which is "the most honest and upright town in all the region round about. It had kept that reputation unsmirched during three generations, and was prouder of it than of
any other of its possessions then greed and revenge from one who was put out by their loving town" (Twain). This town, which prided itself too much on being
noble, honest, and pure, was put to the test, and failed by this man seeking revenge. And, his revenge was to give them a mystery involving money that would ultimately
peel off the layers of the facade that the town possessed, illustrating that good and truth is not possessed by those who appear to be so wondrously good. In essence,
these pious people are evil and greedy. The Story of the Good Little Boy In this tale we have a little boy name Jacob who is always trying to
live his life as a good boy according to Bible stories he knows. He thinks that doing good will bring positive results like it did for the boys in the
books. "But somehow nothing ever went right with this good little boy; nothing ever turned out with him the way it turned out with the good little boys in the
books. They always had a good time, and the bad boys had the broken legs; but in his case there was a screw loose somewhere; and it all happened just
the other way" For example, "When he found Jim Blake stealing apples, and went under the tree to read to him about the bad little boy who fell out of
a neighbors apple-tree and broke his arm, Jim fell out of the tree too, but he fell on him, and broke his arm, and Jim wasnt hurt at all" (Twain).
