very rewarding, if at times very difficult and even heartbreaking. This paper describes the Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and reflects on why
the student wants to attend this institution. Discussion As noted, Good Samaritan, often nicknamed "Good Sam" is located in Cincinnati and is a "private, not-for-profit institution of higher education" (About
GSC, 2010). The institution serves southwestern Ohio, southeastern Indiana and northern Kentucky and is a "subsidiary of TriHealth, Inc. and Good Samaritan Hospital" (About GSC, 2010). The nursing program at
Good Samaritan has been in existence since 1896, "beginning with the Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing" (About GSC, 2010). The College is Catholic, and provides "quality nursing education" within
that environment (About GSC, 2010). Graduates of the college earn an Associates degree in Applied Science in Nursing and "go on to serve Good Samaritan Hospital, the community of greater
Cincinnati, the nation, and the world" (About GSC, 2010). The College says that its mission is to educate men and women "for careers in nursing and other health related fields
in the greater Cincinnati region" (Mission, vision and college goals, 2010). It also defines itself specifically as a Catholic school, which must be construed to mean that there will be
