cause for rejection or the failure to live up to what others perceive. As such, Goffman (1995) states how people have interchangeable "faces" whereby they display different facets of
their core personalities based upon what variables are present in a given situation; in other words, a virtual social identity. For many, the person in private is quite different
from the person who presents himself to the public, a duality of impression management that influences both self-esteem and self-efficacy. Of the many reasons attributed to why humans present
different versions of themselves depending upon the particular circumstances, the notion of stigmas encourages people to paint a specific public image of themselves that is not actually true. This
is especially the case with popular culture personalities. To be stigmatized is to be expected to act in a certain manner based upon which specific category one represents. Human
nature is defined by myriad elements, not the least of which is the social need to categorize people into distinct groupings based upon certain criteria. These innate classifications can
represent significant social power, as in the case of beauty, wealth and status, or they can symbolize aspects of society that people would just as soon forget, such as homelessness
and criminal behavior. Each of these groups is expected to act a certain way based upon the conceived notions established as a whole; to act otherwise is to step
