and God, whom they call YWWH, which is generally pronounced Yahweh. When God selected Abraham, He, in fact, chose the ancestor for His people (Barton, 2005). He made His covenant
with Abraham for all heirs, i.e., the Israelites (Barton, 2005). In the covenant, God promised that Abraham would be the ancestor of a very large people and that those
people would occupy the Promised Land (Barton, 2005). We also read in Deuteronomy that God said the Israelites were holy people in Gods mind and that He chose them to
be His possession (Sola Scriptura, 2003). In Zechariah, we read that the Israelites are the apple of Gods eye (Sola Scriptura, 2003). We dont know why God chose the Israelites
to have a specific relationship with Him but He did. They are to reflect His glory. Gods actions towards the Israelites took on the feeling of a Father towards His
children. Israel became the family of God. The prophetic books in the Old Testament demonstrate the family theme in terms of the relationship (Dearman, 1998). Family was of primary importance
in the Israelite culture that the metaphor of the Israelites becoming the family of God was one that was easily promoted (Dearman, 1998). These people became the children of God
(Dearman, 1998) and we often hear that phrase being used to describe the relationship between Israel and God. He was the living God according to the Books in the Old
Testament (Dearman, 1998). There is also the metaphor of Gods marriage to Israel (Dearman, 1998). This metaphor is found in a number of the prophets books, including Hosea, Isaiah, Ezekiel
