Testament. The covenant is Gods way of communicating His expectations to His people. The covenant also includes the consequences for those who follow His Word and those who dont. The
covenant also explains what the relationship between man and God will be based on these expectations and consequences. In the Tanakh, God made covenants with both individuals and with nations.
The covenants with individuals included those with Adam, Noah, Moses, Abraham, and David and then, God made His covenant with Israel. The first covenant God made with Adam who was
placed in charge of the earth, Adam only had to do one thing for this covenant to last forever. He could not eat the fruit of one tree. Adams disobedience
condemned all of humanity. The second covenant with Adam following his disobedience was that the seed of the woman would bruise the serpents heel. Even in Gods wrath against Adam,
He continued to be merciful. Gods mercy is what connects all of the covenants He made with man. One of Gods acts was to always choose a remnant or
a group who will carry on His work. We find this first in the story of Noah and his family. God found humans had become so sinful that He decided
to bring a great flood that would cover the earth but Noah was a righteous man and God decided to save humanity through Noah and His family if Noah followed
directions. Noah was to build an ark and bring on board a pair of every species on earth, plants and animals. The sign for this covenant was a rainbow.
