Globalization has a very real potential to affect the prospect for violence around the world. Globalization entails the introduction of ideas and practices that are
not always homogenous to indigenous cultures in particular. Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa all stand in testament to this fact. The result can be a lashing
out by these cultures as they desperately try to retain some semblance of their tradition in the face of the overwhelming drive to change that tradition that is presented by
globalization. It is important to note that the reaction of various political bodies and regimes to the concept of globalization can very tremendously.
Perhaps this variation is best illustrated in Latin America, the geographic areas where the concept of globalization is said to have spun off the concept of neoliberalism, one
of the most dominant economic models of the 1980s (The News). As often as not the reaction to globalization has encompassed at least some degree of violence. Many,
of course, try to underplay that negative impact of globalization. Roger Noriega (Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs) recently observed at the Council of the Americas, for
example, that: "anti-globalization charlatans and the false prophets of populism are trying -- and, in
some cases, succeeding -- to undermine responsible policies and discredit responsible political leaders" Obviously,
